About Us

The ELT Newsletter edited and produced by NetLearn Languages, the Online Language School (www.nll.co.uk ).

Since 1997 NLL has been pioneering the use of up-to-date Internet technologies for language learning and teaching. In particular, we have been focusing on using Internet videoconferencing for live language lessons via the net, making it possible for individuals and groups to study online with a qualified and experienced native-speaker teacher.

In addition to language courses we also offer online teacher development courses such as the COLTE (the Certificate in On-Line Teaching of English - www.colte.com ) and the Distance In-Service Training course for non-native speaker teachers of English (www.nll.co.uk/dist ).

Eric Baber, EditorThe ELT Newsletter is edited by Eric Baber, who is also the Director of Studies of NLL. Eric has been involved in teaching EFL and teacher-training for a number of years, and has taught in a variety of countries such as Germany, Thailand and Laos. Early 1996 he finally decided to throw caution to the wind and get on the Internet; the rest, as they say, is history. He began piloting NLL in 1997, and feels that on-line teaching is a major step forward in global communication and allowing access to high-quality teaching to the world.

In his free time Eric enjoys reading and travelling, as well as educating himself and others about "renewable" energy sources. He loves telling people about the solar panels on his roof, which give him all the hot water he needs almost 40% of the year – in London! His dream is to build an energy self-sufficient building south of London, from which NetLearn Languages could operate. Watch this space….
